away. They would call if they found something that they thought I might be interested in. Old albums, pictures, books, and stories have come my way from these families.

I have found that people of all ages love to see old pictures that refect the way life used to be in early Abilene. Over the years, I have shown the slide shows to over 85,000 people. I did not realize how long I had been doing the shows until a bald headed man with a beard came up to me and said, “I remember when you came to Taylor Elementary School and showed us those great old pictures when I was in the second grade.” Sharing these pictures with people has been personally gratifying for me. In my own small way, I have kept the local history alive for a lot of people. I heard that young children have gone home and told their parents about the pictures they saw in school. People have shared their pictures and stories with me that most will never know. I
