While she stays busy with emergency calls, there is also an area of her practice that she deals with specifc issues. Because of her training with Dr. Lowder, she works a lot with the teeth of horses. She also treats animals with various neurologic and other diseases. Much of her time is also spent in preventative care. She gives vaccines and joint injections to large animals. It is required for horses that will be in horse shows and large animals that are to be carried across the state line to be tested. Laura performs these vital tests for her clients. When she goes to a client’s home for the animal, she is very adamant about involving the owner in the care of the animal. She teaches clients to be a nurse to their ailing animal so they can do follow-up daily

Looking back over the path that brought her to where she is today, Laura says everything seemed to fall in place perfectly. Once when she was wondering if she should combine her love of animals with her career, her cousin, Lee Dorman, solidly put things in perspective for her. He said, “Laura, if you have the ability to go to vet school, why not go?” This one statement stuck with her and caused her to get over her concern about combining her career and hobby.
