Point to any county in the Permian Basin on a map, and you are more than likely to fnd an emerging resource play. Once considered to be played out, the Permian Basin in West Texas has recently become a Mecca for oil and gas activity in the United States. High oil prices and recent advances in drilling techniques and technology have created a furry of activity in Midland and surrounding areas as oil and gas companies move west to explore and develop these oil rich felds. These emerging plays, such as the Wolfberry in Midland, Glasscock and Martin Counties, the Wolfcamp to the south, and the Bone Springs to the west have breathed new life into the Permian Basin. With them comes economic growth for the area.

The Permian Basin has a rich history dating back to the 1920’s when Midland was merely a stop on the Texas and Pacifc railway line, halfway between Fort Worth and El Paso. A quiet little ranching town, Midland was known as a place to buy supplies and ship cattle. But with the discovery of oil in the Permian Basin, Midland was quickly transformed into a central hub for oil and gas activity in West Texas.
