akie, FS 540, 50-50 Grind, Ollie, McTwist and Mongo-foot. These are all terms heard frequently at the William-Sam Memorial Skate Park located inside Midland’s Beal Park. When most people think of parks, images of trees, green grass and colorful
fowers come to mind. However, to many Midland youth, the concrete bowl skate park in southwest Midland is truly a beautiful paradise.
That is certainly the case for two of the skate park’s frequent visitors: Christian Gonzales and Stefan Garcia,
who are both 14-year-old Midland Freshman High School ninth graders. On a Saturday afternoon in mid-September, the two friends were at the skate park enjoying each other’s company, getting some exercise and practicing their “tricks.”
Thanks to the persistence of a group of Midland parents, the William-Sam Memorial Skate Park in southwest Midland is providing youth with exercise, fun and weekly opportunities for Christ-centered discussions.
