n West Texas it’s a well-known fact that we take care of our own. The care and concern doesn’t just apply to the two-legged ‘animal’, but also to the four-legged kind. So it comes as no surprise that a fundraiser was held to beneft the fuzzy and the furry of the area.

The adorable invitation, in bright festa colors, proclaimed “ ‘Ay Chihuahua! Yappy Hour’, a beneft for the doggies and kitties at the Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals.” Held outdoors at the Racquet Club, the event featured a ‘Fiesta under the tent’, with an opportunity to ‘meet and greet the shelter residents’. The Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals came about after a friend of Mr. Kirk French told him about the animal shelter (formerly known as Lone Star SPCA) that needed some help. Taking on a rather overwhelming job, Kirk French stated “the shelter was in such a dismal condition, but the past eight-and-a-half years have not only been some of the most diffcult, yet, the best years of my life. Changing the name to the Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals, aligned it with their mission of ‘Saving and Changing Lives’, with the focus to make a positive difference in the lives of the animals.”

Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals is a no-kill shelter and whose goal is to fnd each animal a ‘forever home’. If no home becomes available, the shelter keeps these animals and makes the shelter their home where they are loved and cared for.
