She also volunteers as K-9 human remains detection resource for the follow-ing agencies: Georgia Bureau of Investiga-tions (GBI), Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Florida State Attorney Homicide Investigation Unit 7 th Circuit, St. Johns County Florida Sheriff’s Depart-ment, plus additional agencies. Angela is Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) licensed with K-9 DeDe licensed as a cadaver K-9 and K-9 Mick trained in Air Scent. Angela was assistant instructor for the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (N.N.D.D.A.) workshop for human remains detection K-9s in 2006. She worked with the National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children (N.C.M.E.C.) in Valdosta, Georgia on a search in 2004 for the infant Jay-Quan Mosley where she learned search techniques for safer and more effective use of K-9’s and support personnel in landfll searches. Febru-ary 15, 2003, Angela was certifed as K-9 instructor for K-9 Human Remains Detection, Air Scent K-9, and Tracking/Trailing K-9 from K-9 Training Centers of Florida. Angela was guest speaker on the topic of K-9 usage for lost or missing persons at the Governors Emergency Management Conference in Geor-gia April 29 – May 1, 2002. Over 750 people attended from law enforcement agencies and emergency management agencies from across Georgia.

As you can see from the extensive list of accomplishments and training Angela Batten has dedicated her life to the monumental task of rescuing and recovering lost loved ones. Her selfess dedication to the community and contribution to mankind inspires me to lend a helping hand a little more often. She is a shining example of what being a Hometown Hero truly is.
