In addition, it is in poor taste to request money only in lieu of gifts. While many rules have changed with the times, some things are better left untouched. For example, parents and siblings of the bride and groom should never throw a gift shower for the couple. These parties should be hosted by friends of the couple instead. Family is responsible for bridal brunch/luncheon, wedding, and receptions – non-gift events. The correct invitation wording varies based on wedding location, family situation and more, so it is always helpful to reference the proper verbiage to avoid confusion and mistakes.
